Crock Pot???

I am apparently incapable of making anything edible in a crock pot.  Maybe I’m too snobby with food?  I have a large 6qt crock pot and no matter what I put in it, it does not come out right.

I think my first problem is that everything over cooks in it.  Maybe it’s a faulty crock pot and I need a new one???  Maybe it’s just too big for most recipes?  I haven’t given up yet.  I’m going to try out a french onion soup recipe tomorrow so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I won’t screw soup up.

If any of you have some awesome go-to crock pot recipes, please do share.  The crock pot in concept sounds great if I could just make edible food in it…although, I guess I’ve never seen a cooking show featuring crock pots so maybe my expectations are too great???

This year I turn 35!  I’ve decided in order to celebrate this, I want to do 35 random acts of kindness (RAK) and encourage everyone else to participate and do a RAK in honor of my birthday.

I think it’s especially fitting this year as my birthday falls on Thanksgiving day.  I may have to start now with my plans as thirty five RAKs in one day is a lot!!!

I was inspired by this woman’s blog post.  I think it’s just a great idea.

So far, I’m having a great time listing out what I plan to do.  I am hoping not to spend a lot of money so I think I’ll start preparations now.  I especially loved hiding dollar bills in the toy section of a dollar store.  I think I’ll head to one sooner than later and pick up other supplies to donate to the Veteran’s shelter and an animal shelter that we love.

If anyone that reads this is local to me, I am going to make a donation to our local Veteran’s shelter.  I am happy to collect items if anyone else wants to donate as well.  Here’s a link to their wishlist.

Also, I’d love to hear ideas for low cost RAK’s if you have any creative ones.  I do plan to do things like go to the area hospital and donate toys/magazines and tape some change to vending machines and maybe pay for someone’s parking at the garage.

Last, if anyone wants to participate and do some RAK’s in honor of my birthday over Thanksgiving weekend, I would just love that.

To friends and family – I’m very fortunate to have what I have.  I’m certainly not a wealthy individual but I have a solid roof over my head, a great job, an awesome family and an amazing circle of friends.  I can’t ask for much more than that nor do I need anything.  I ask this year, in lieu of gifts, please take whatever you would have spent on me and donate to one of these charities:

Umass Memorial (Please select Child Life – Children’s Medical Center, STAR Fund or Newborn Intensive Care Unit – in memory of Alexander Matthew Espie)

Veterans Inc.

Alzheimer’s Association
