Today is the one year anniversary of P and I’s first date.

This has literally been the happiest year of my life.  I’m so comfortable with him, he is so supportive, loving, and makes me so happy.  I never knew that it could be like this.  He is my best friend.  We have had an amazing year together and I look forward to many more!

And I ordered some knitting skull fabric to line it with.  It has lime green in it so it’s perfect.

As the release date of the movie New Moon is approaching!  I got caught up in a little bit of hype and got some movie inspired dyed yarns and roving.  One of them is called New Moon and is a light worsted weight.  I’ll be knitting Alice’s fingerless mitts with this to wear to the movie.

Here’s Rosalie (in the back), a fingering weight yarn, which will likely become socks or a shawl/scarf.  And New Moon in front of it, which will become my mitts.

This is some roving in a colorway called Forks and it’s superwash merino wool.  I love the earthy tones.  Can’t wait to spin this up.

The Rosalie and Forks came from Sunshine Yarns.  VERY friendly people, excellent service and great colors/yarn/fiber quality.  I’ll definitely give them more business in the future.

Today is Veteran’s Day so I have the day off of work.  Surprisingly P has to work.  The veteran doesn’t have Veteran’s Day off.

I’m going to use this time wisely and do something extra nice for him today.

Thank you to all the men and women who have served and are serving our country.  It’s an amazing sacrifice they make and they are pretty amazing people to do it.

Since I’ve done so good with the Christmas shopping…I’m 99% done on the actual shopping front, I decided I’d grab up a knitting bag/purse since they went on sale!

I bought a Namaste Newport knitting bag in Charcoal from Scout’s while she was having a sale..  It’s a purse/knitting bag and is very roomy but quite light.  For a long time the fact that it was faux leather bothered me but I figured I’d give it a shot.  It has a center divider zipper area and pockets on either side.  One side will be knitting, one side will be purse stuff.

I also got a little Cali Mini Cozy which is the perfect height for crochet hooks or smaller double points.  I did a secret crochet project recently and I forgot how easy/fun crochet can be so I may try my hand at a few more projects.

This past weekend, there was an Alpaca show at the DCU Center in Worcester which is just a hop, skip and a jump from our house.  So P and I set out after breakfast, scored free parking and went to walk around.

There was an extremely reasonable $2 entrance fee each and there were some cute little kids collecting the money and manning the booth at the entrance.  They were very proud of themselves handing back the change.  Very bright kids.

So we continued on in and similar to a dog show, they had a small pen set up and bleachers where people could watch.  They judged different categories of alpacas and many ribbons were won.  We could walk around all of the pens for each of the farms and we could walk right up to the adorable alpacas.  Some booths had yarn and roving for sale.

There was a booth for a farm in Leicester that we plan to visit soon.  They had some great alpaca and soy silk  yarn but a fellow knitter snatched it all up.  I hope Nancy makes something lovely with it!   I think I’ll try to score some from them directly.

On the way home, P said that he really liked the alpacas.  After some quick research we found that it really wouldn’t be too nutty to attempt to own some.  They are really pretty affordable if you are just buying them for their fiber.  The ones for breeding are significantly more expensive.

You just need some fenced in land and a three-sided shelter.  Food and maintenance really don’t sound that bad.  P said to buy some alpaca for fiber is almost as expensive as a pure bred dog could be from a breeder.

So that’s something to think about for the future.  We’ll have to see where we end up.

But honestly…a man that doesn’t mind my craziness, my knitting/fiber addictions, and that suggests that perhaps we get some alpacas of our very own.  Unbelievably awesome.  I’m a lucky, lucky girl.

After all the wait for an FO, I have for you some finished gloves.  Also a gift, so no further deets but I love ‘em.

As I said, November is a good month with a lot of good stuff going on.

Another good thing in November, is the release of the movie New Moon, the next in the Twilight Saga.

Now, I’m in no way a “super fan” as I think there are people out there that take the fan thing to a very strange and sort of creepy level, but I did enjoy the books and really like the story.

I’m looking forward to heading out with a group of my girlfriends and checking it out.  In honor of this event, I plan to knit some fingerless mitts similar to the ones one of the characters wears in the movie.  To make it even more fitting, I bought a New Moon inspired colorway of yarn off of etsy.

Let the geek flag fly.

Well, the countdown continues to Christmas.

I have very very very little left to buy and other than that, I have about three or four knitting projects to complete, two of which are in progress.  Not too bad I say!  I also have one sewing project.

I had hoped to be completely done by Thanksgiving, but I’m not sure that will happen.  It’s possible though.

I’ve taken some small breaks here and there to make other things, or to start something for me.

I’ve been working on a felted knitting tote for me that is a bit Halloweeny in that it’s got a skull on it, but I think skulls are one of those timeless designs don’t you?

On Halloween, we went to P’s mom’s house and I learned how to make cappellettis.   It’s an Italian thing – they are hat shaped versions of tortellinis.  I googled it but did not find anything close to what we did and as I’m unsure as to whether it’s a secret recipe or not, I’m going to keep it a secret just in case.

They are little tiny dumplings (sort of) that go in a soup.  For P’s family it’s a tradition to make them and freeze them, then make them up for a holiday gathering.

They were, in concept easy to make.  I learned how to make the dough and filler and how to “process” them in terms of preparing them for freezing.

It was fun and messy but we made out with hundreds of cappellettis for the holidays.
